PGP stands for Pretty Good Privacy. It is a data encryption and decryption program used for secure communication and file encryption. PGP uses a combination of symmetric-key and public-key cryptography to provide confidentiality, integrity, and authenticity of data. The software was developed by Phil Zimmermann in 1991 and is now owned by Symantec Corporation. PGP is commonly used for email encryption, digital signatures, and secure file transfer.
